CAMI IN COLLABORATION WITH MCGILL UNIVERSITY IS LAUNCHING A CALL FOR BURSARY APPLICATIONS



DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2012-2013 – JUNE 18TH, 2012Created by the McGill University Training and Retention of Health Professionals Project, the McGill Retention Bursary Program’s Category 1 Bursary is intended to provide financial incentive to students from selected Quebec regions with English and French language skills pursuing full-time studies in the area of health and social services in a government recognized educational institution located outside their region.Students who are awarded bursaries must commit to returning to a Quebec region following the successful completion of their studies to work for a minimum of one year in a public health and social services institution or related organization.
Students wishing to apply for the Bursary Program must submit their application forms to the contact person at the participating community network in their region.

BURSARY OBJECTIVE:

The purpose of the Category 1 Bursary is to address the need for bilingual professionals in health and social services in selected Quebec regions by encouraging students to pursue studies in health and social service disciplines in government recognized educational institutions located outside their region and to return to their region to work and serve their communities.

BURSARY AMOUNTS:
The Category 1 Bursary amounts are fixed based on the student’s level of study: 

• University: Up to $10,000 per year per student registered for full-time studies during 2011 - 2012, 2012 - 2013 academic years. 
• Cégep / college: Up to $5,000 per year per student registered for full-time studies during 2011 - 2012, 2012 - 2013 academic years. 
• Secondary school vocational training: Up to $5,000 per year per student registered for full-time studies during 2011 - 2012, 2012 - 2013 academic years. 
PERIOD COVERED:
The Bursary Program covers the 2011 - 2012 and 2012 - 2013 academic years. The funding is non-retroactive to previous years.

BURSARY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Category 1 Bursary is open to students from selected Quebec regions 

• Are Canadian citizens who have resided in a selected Quebec region for at least 2 years (24 months); 

• Are permanent residents who have resided in a selected Quebec region for at least 2 years (24 months); 

• Have the English and French language skills to provide health and social services in a health and social services institution; 

. Are pursuing studies in a government recognized educational institution located outside their region; 

• Are currently accepted into or pursuing full-time studies (the educational institution that the students are attending considers them as such) in a government recognized health and social services program that permits the students to work professionally in Quebec upon completion of studies 

• Are registered full-time for a minimum of 1 full academic year during the 2011 - 2012 and 2012 - 2013 academic years; 

Please note that the Bursary Program is not applicable to students: 

Registered in independent or non-degree programs

Registered in distance and on-line training programs. 

• Are committed, following completion of studies, to return to a selected Quebec region to work in the field of health and social services in a public health and social services institution or related organization for a minimum of one year; 
• Agree to a follow-up evaluation by the McGill Project upon completion of studies in the event that such an evaluation program is implemented. 

The community network (CAMI) is responsible for ensuring that the students meet the Eligibility Criteria.

 As part of local Tourism Development the Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders (CAMI), CEDEC, the Municipality of Grosse Ile and the Entry Island Future Committee are looking for artisans within the English Speaking community who would be interested in selling their product. 

There is the possibility to sell your product:

·         On an online boutique, linked to CAMI’s website in time for the 2012 Holiday season

 

·         In CAMI’s boutique located in the Little Red School House

 

·         At a potential Artisan Market in November 2012.

 

 

There are an abundance of talented craftspeople in our community, and a variety of products to showcase including paintings, decorative paintings, homemade quilts, homemade crochet and knitted items, ceramics, soap, and jewellery.  Why not turn your hobby into a source of income?
